Our Technology
The operational principle of VW sensors comes from a tensioned steel wire of which the resonant vibration frequency is proportional to the strain or tension in the wire. This fundamental relationship is utilized in a variety of configurations for the measurement of strain, load, force, pressure, temperature, and tilt.
The VW sensors are superior to conventional types, for their outputs are not voltages but frequencies transmittable over long (>2000 m) cables without appreciable degradation of the signal caused by variations in cable resistance which can arise from water penetration, temperature fluctuations, contact resistance, or leakage to ground. This factor, coupled with the elegance and ruggedness of Geokon designs results in VW sensors which exhibit excellent long-term stability and which are ideally suited for long-term measurements in adverse environments.
The FBG sensors are the most important inventions in the 1990s. FBG is an optical unit, with good reliability, high precision and strong resistances to electromagnetic interference and lightning. A piece of optical fiber may form quasi-distributed measurement system after connecting several different wavelength FBG sensors. FBG sensors are very suitable for dynamic measurement.
